  1. A

    Cabinet & guard

A visual check for damage, debris and anything restricting airflow around the unit.

    Cabinet & doors

A visual check of the cabinet, doors and venting for damage, rust or anything blocking airflow.

  2. B

    Fan & motor

The fan pulls air through all four sides of the coil. If it stops, the system can’t shed heat.

    Blower & motor

The blower pushes warm air through the ducts. If it slows or stops, rooms don’t heat evenly.

  3. C

    Coil

Dirt and damage on the heat-exchange coil cost capacity long before anything fails outright.

    Burners & heat exchanger

Burners are checked for a clean, even flame, the heat exchanger for cracks and corrosion.

  4. D

    Compressor & controls

The heart of the system and the electrical parts that keep it running — checked before anything is replaced.

    Gas valve & controls

The gas valve, igniter and control board that keep the furnace running safely — checked before anything is replaced.

11Questions

Questions,answered.

Still not sure what’s going on? Call and describe it — we’ll tell you what we’d check first.

Why is my air conditioner running but not cooling?

Common causes are a clogged air filter, a thermostat set to the wrong mode, a dirty or iced-over coil, low refrigerant from a leak, or a failed capacitor or fan motor. Check the filter and the thermostat first. If it still blows warm air, switch it off and call: running it this way can damage the compressor.

Why is my furnace making a loud noise?

A bang when it starts can mean delayed ignition, squealing usually points to the blower motor, and rattling is often a loose panel or duct. A noise that is new is worth having checked before it turns into a bigger repair.

How often should my heating and cooling be serviced?

Once a year for each system is the usual recommendation: the air conditioner before summer and the furnace before winter. A heat pump does both jobs, so it benefits from a check in spring and in fall.

How often should I change the air filter?

Typically every one to three months, and more often with pets, allergies or construction nearby. A clogged filter cuts airflow, raises energy bills and makes the whole system work harder.

What can I check before calling for a repair?

Make sure the thermostat is on the right mode and setting and has working batteries, the breaker has not tripped, the filter is clean, the outdoor unit is clear of leaves and debris, and the supply vents are open. If none of that helps, give us a call.

Should I repair or replace my system?

It depends on the age of the equipment, how often it has needed repairs and what the repair costs compared with its value. We find the cause first and give you the price in writing before any work begins, so you can decide with the facts in front of you.
