Heating and cooling in Valencia
Valencia is the planned heart of Santa Clarita. The Newhall Land and Farming Company laid it out from the late 1960s, grouping neighborhoods into villages linked by the paseos — the network of walking paths, bridges and underpasses that lets you cross much of Valencia without stepping onto a main road. Around it sit Westridge and Stevenson Ranch to the southwest and Tesoro del Valle to the north, with newer development west of I-5.
Because Valencia went up in phases over several decades, homes on neighboring streets can have very different systems. In the earliest villages, original ductwork may still be in the attic while the equipment has been swapped more than once. In houses from the 1990s and 2000s, the first or second system is often reaching the age when repairs start to add up. Knowing roughly when your home was built tells us a lot before we open a panel.
Many Valencia homes are two-story, with condos and townhomes around the Town Center and along the main parkways. Upstairs rooms fight the heat that gathers under the roof, and in attached homes the equipment often sits in a tight closet, a narrow side yard or a shared pad, which makes clearance and airflow around it more important. Homeowners associations are common, so check your HOA’s rules before an outdoor unit is moved or replaced.
Summers are hot and dry, and air conditioners run long hours from late spring into fall. Attic ducts work hardest exactly when the attic is hottest, so a leak or a crushed run up there shows up as a bedroom that never cools.

01Local issues
Common HVAC issues in Valencia
Second-floor rooms that never cool
Common in Valencia’s two-story homes. Leaky or undersized ducts in the attic, too little return air upstairs, or a thermostat placed where it never feels the heat are the usual reasons.
Original ducts in the older villages
Flexible duct from decades ago sags, splits and pulls apart at the joints, so air you paid to cool ends up in the attic. Sealing, re-hanging or replacing sections often evens out the rooms.
Systems at the end of their first life
In homes from the 1990s and 2000s, the original condenser and furnace are getting old. More frequent repairs, louder running and longer cycles are signs it’s time for an honest assessment.
Cramped closets and boxed-in units
Air handlers squeezed into closets and condensers hemmed in by fences or shrubs run hot and short of air. Restoring clearance is a cheap fix that is easy to overlook.
Noise that neighbors notice
In townhomes and close-set houses, a rattling fan or a straining compressor is heard next door. Worn motors, loose panels and failing parts usually get noisy before they quit, which makes noise worth acting on.

FAQQuestions
Valencia questions,answered.
Still not sure what’s going on? Call and describe it — we’ll tell you what we’d check first.
(323) 631-8683Are Stevenson Ranch and Westridge covered?
Yes. Along with Valencia we serve Westridge, Stevenson Ranch, Tesoro del Valle and Newhall Ranch. Stevenson Ranch and Tesoro del Valle lie outside city limits but well inside our service area.
My HOA has rules about outdoor units. Can you work within them?
Yes. Tell us what your association requires — placement, screening or approval before a replacement — and we’ll plan the work to fit.
Why is my upstairs so much hotter than downstairs?
Heat rises and collects under the roof, and in many two-story homes the upstairs is fed by long duct runs through a hot attic. Leaks, too little return air and thermostat placement all play a part. We measure what’s happening before recommending duct repair or rebalancing.
How old is too old for the original system in my home?
There’s no fixed age. Condition, repair history and how well it keeps the house comfortable matter more than the year on the label. We report what we find and put any repair price in writing, so you can compare.
