Heating and cooling in Simi Valley

Simi Valley is our one city in Ventura County. It fills its own valley, ringed by the Simi Hills and the Santa Susana Mountains, with the Arroyo Simi running through it and SR-118 climbing over the Santa Susana Pass to Chatsworth and the San Fernando Valley. Neighborhoods run from the older parts of town on the valley floor to newer hillside areas such as Wood Ranch and Big Sky, and the unincorporated community of Santa Susana Knolls sits at the east end.

Much of the city’s housing went up during its fast suburban growth in the second half of the 20th century, so many homes have had their original equipment replaced, sometimes more than once, while the ducts above the ceiling are the ones the house was built with. Newer neighborhoods have newer systems, but those are now old enough to need regular care as well.

Being inland, Simi Valley has long, hot summers, and air conditioners carry a heavy load from late spring well into fall. Winter nights are chilly enough that heating matters, too. Santa Ana winds push through the passes in fall and winter, bringing dust and, when the brush in the surrounding hills burns, smoke.

Homes here are served by Southern California Edison and SoCalGas. Whether yours has an air conditioner, a heat pump or a gas furnace, we work on it.

FAQQuestions

Simi Valley questions,answered.

Still not sure what’s going on? Call and describe it — we’ll tell you what we’d check first.

Do you really come out to Simi Valley?

Yes. Simi Valley is part of our regular service area, over the Santa Susana Pass on the 118. It is the only city we serve in Ventura County.

Do you work on heat pumps as well as gas furnaces?

Yes. We repair and maintain air conditioners, heat pumps and gas furnaces. If you are weighing a switch from a furnace to a heat pump, we can talk through what it involves for your house.

Why does my AC struggle more here than it did near the coast?

Inland valleys get far hotter than coastal neighborhoods, and summer afternoons push an air conditioner to its limit. A system slightly low on refrigerant, with a dirty coil or leaky ducts, shows it here first.

What should I do about dust after the Santa Ana winds?

Replace the filter, clear debris from around the outdoor unit and rinse its coil gently. If the system still runs long or the air feels dusty, we can check the ducts and filtration.

Is Santa Susana Knolls part of your Simi Valley area?

Yes. We serve all of Simi Valley — the older neighborhoods on the valley floor, hillside areas such as Wood Ranch and Big Sky — and the unincorporated Santa Susana Knolls at the east end. Give us your address when you call and we’ll confirm it on the spot.
